Frequently Asked Questions – Jungle NYC Online Store

General

What is Jungle NYC?
Jungle NYC is an indoor plant lifestyle company. We curate a design-minded collection of indoor plants and pots for the city we love - NYC. Our ambition is to make green simple and on point.

We grow with our slogan, “Feeling good with nature.”

What if the thing I want is out of stock?
If a product you’re into is out of stock, first check the product page to see if a Wait List is available. Signing up for the Wait List means you’ll be notified when it becomes available.

The next best place to learn about new drops and restocks is our mailing list. We try to keep all correspondence interesting and cool. You can join by signing up in the footer below.

If you would like something you don't see on the website, it's great for us to know. We're always hunting for cool things, so maybe we'll get it, who knows. CONTACT US ->

Plants

What is included with my Jungle NYC Plant?
All our plants are specially selected and come with a handwritten care card, safe soil-based pest preventative, and Jungle NYC plant support for the life of your plant.

If a plant and pot are purchased together, we handle the dirty work and pot it for you. If the pot doesn't have a drainage hole, we'll include a layer of drainage material (see below for more info).

Plants that are being picked up or delivered come with minimalist protective packaging. Small plants are bagged and larger plants are wrapped in brown paper. Please take care unpacking your plant and be sure to recycle or reuse the packaging.

Why does my plant look different from the website?
Plants are living things, and each one has its own unique features. While we make every effort to display our plants as accurately as possible, there may be natural differences.

Jungle NYC is not responsible for plants that don’t match the pictures or sizing shown on our site. After all, who looks exactly like their pics? We really don't want to catfish you, so if you want to be 100% certain you can visit our store to pick your plant in person.

My plant arrived damaged, what do I do?
Plants are fragile, and while our hand-delivery process is the safest way to transport them, it isn’t always perfect. We suggest that you inspect your plant immediately upon arrival. If your plant or pot is damaged - we'll fix it.

If you see damage, please contact us using our contact form and make sure to include a photo. Please see the Returns & Exchanges section for more info.

I have a plant or pot that I want to combine with a Jungle product. What do I do?
We offer potting services at our Williamsburg Brooklyn store. Pricing is based on size, starting at $5. If you come in with your plant or pot, we will find the right match and do the dirty work for you.

Our potting service is usually done same-day. It is available exclusively at the Jungle NYC Store and requires a purchase of an in-stock pot or plant to pair your item with.

Should I be worried about pests?
Less than almost anywhere else - We take pests very seriously and go above and beyond to make sure our plants are top quality. Jungle NYC uses a collection of safe pest preventatives and screening practices to make sure our plants stay healthy.

We start with a thorough health screening and keep it up with regular inspections, treatments, and constant care. If there is ever an issue we identify it and isolate it fast.

All of our potted plants come with a slow-release organic pest preventative mixed into the soil so your plant starts with a leg up. All our pest treatments are non-toxic to humans or animals.

If you are having issues with pests at home, please see our Plant Care section and/or contact us.

Do you have outdoor plants?
While we’ve mastered the great indoors, we don’t offer outdoor plants or services. Outdoor urban environments are their own thing and require a different expertise. Certain indoor plants can live outdoors seasonally, however they should be brought inside during the winter months. If you would like to learn more about what plants work outside seasonally in NYC, just contact us.

Plant Care

How do I take care of my plant?
Jungle NYC plants come with a care card that gives an overview of your plant’s specific needs. Each card is filled out by hand by one of our Plant Pros.

Our plants come with lifetime support, so please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. Usually the more proactive you are about plant problems, the easier they are to fix.

We want your plant to thrive and pride ourselves on taking the guesswork out of the whole ‘plants’ thing so CONTACT US -> and one of our Plant Pro’s will be in touch!

When should I water my new plant after I get it?
The plants care card will state the level of dryness that it should reach between watering. We care for every plant in a way that meets its needs long-term. That means that it may join you in the middle of its watering cycle - Your plant may not need to be watered right away!

To determine if your plant needs water, there’s really no way to do it without getting in there! Referring to the depth mentioned in the care card or on our website, feel the moisture of the soil directly with your fingers. If you’d rather not get dirty, try sticking a chopstick or popsicle stick in the soil. Soil moisture can be assessed like testing cake batter, by seeing if it sticks. If the soil is dry to the depth mentioned in the care card, it’s time to water it.

If you’re still puzzled, get in touch! Send us a message, and if you can, include some pictures so we can see what’s going on.

My plant needs help! What should I do?
Each Jungle NYC plant comes with a lifelong commitment from us to help you take care of it. We’re here to make sure it works out in the long run between you and your plant.

If you see a problem that you don’t know how to solve, CONTACT US ->

A Jungle NYC Plant Pro will get back to you soon. It always helps to share pictures of your plant, including your plant’s surroundings, so we have a good idea of what’s going on.

How do I know if I have the right light for my plant?
Plants can be pretty particular about what lighting they prefer, and talking about light can be pretty particular in its own way. There are a lot of specific-sounding terms we use to describe natural light. Plant people love to share light tips, and we include information on necessary light on every plant’s product page.

To help make sense of it, here’s a few quick definitions of terms we use on this site to describe light:

Direct Sun is actual bona-fide sunbeams, falling right from the sun directly onto the plant. This is best for cacti, succulents, birds of paradise, majesty palms, and other arid species.

Bright Indirect Light is found in spaces very near to sunbeams; places just out of direct sun, generally where there’s a nice, unobstructed view of the sky. This can include a bit of direct sun as the light shifts throughout the day. This is favored by most tropical plants, including classics like monstera, dracaena, and calathea.

Low Light describes spaces that have windows, or are near them, but don’t get much direct sunlight. If you can read a book, there’s definitely enough to keep plants, and it’s just about finding the right fit. Plants like ZZ Plants, snake plants, and money trees are open to living in low light.

No Light spaces can have plants! Don’t be discouraged in spaces without windows. Just be ready to adapt; grow lights, light baths, or sparse watering schedules can help plants survive in areas with no natural light.

Should I be concerned about my pets?
Houseplants are cultivated for plenty of wonderful reasons, but being a healthy snack isn’t one of them. A lot of houseplants are not safe for pets to eat, so if that’s a concern, take care to keep them apart, or take care to source only non-toxic plants for your space. Luckily, there’s plenty of options for plants that are perfectly safe to have around pets. We label every plant’s pet-safety status on its product page for the benefit of our four-legged friends.

When should I repot my plant?
All paired Jungle NYC plants are freshly potted into your selection and shouldn’t need to be repotted again for a while. Advice on when to repot plants varies, but generally, it’s best to repot every two years. When each plant needs repotting will depend on the plant, and how much it’s grown since it was last repotted. If you need help repotting your Jungle plant, you can bring it into our store for repotting, starting at $5.

Pots

Should I be worried about a pot without drainage holes?
All our planted pots have drainage of some kind. Some of our pots don’t have drainage holes, so we add drainage material inside it. We use porous clay stones that absorb excess water and allow for oxygen to get to the roots of the plant.

If you’re new to the no-drainage-holes life, don’t worry! We’ll walk you through it in your plant’s care card.

Where do you get your pots?
From all around! Our selection of curated planters come from as close as walking distance in Brooklyn and as far as Europe and Asia. We put a lot of importance on craftsmanship and are in awe of and love working with our diverse makers.

Jungle NYC sells a variety of handmade pots, which can include imperfections from the production process. For this reason, all items sold via Jungle NYC’s website are sold as-is. See our Terms of Service for more information.
