This plant enjoys regular misting and does not like being near drafts, heaters, or AC's. The soil should remain moist, but not soggy, so check that the top layer is dry before watering again. Avoid burning its leaves in direct sun. An Alocasia's soil can be allowed to dry more in winter, as they often go dormant in colder months.
Alocasia Regal Shield is commonly called Elephant Ear. It is a native to Africa and a very popular plant known to grow to heights of 6ft if cared for properly. Easy to look after, it can even been grown outdoors if in zones 10 or 11. Please note: Extra care should be taken as the Alocasia produces oxalic acid which is often used in cleaning and bleaching products. Keep away from children and animals and take extra care when watering and dusting! The best time for general maintenance and pruning is during Fall and Winter when this plant has a well deserved break and goes into dormancy.
