Pro Tips

Too much light can bleach the leaves, and too little light dulls their color, so bright, indirect light is best. Bromeliads love humidity, so mist them occasionally or leave them in a tray of pebbles and water. This plant is actually an air plant that uses its roots for support. Bromeliads have a pronounced life cycle, so your plant may begin producing offsets in its second year.

Origin

Sometimes called vase plant, Bromeliad Guzmania is native to the tropics of Central America. It is an epiphyte, meaning it naturally gets all its water and nutrients from the air. They survive in the wild by clinging to trees or rocks. Bromeliad Guzmania is named after its discoverer, Spanish naturalist Antonio Guzman. The different flower colors are believed to have different meanings; yellow flowers for wealth, red for passion, pink for romantic "lasting" love and orange in celebration of passing a test or exam.
